This first round match played in idea conditions on Sunday morning in Kilbrean Park saw Mastergeeha take on premier competition. This local derby was a tough encounter bewteen two evenly matched teams with both creating scoring chances. In the opening half Mastergeeha with the more possesion created the better chances. In the 20th minute Kevin Bruton was unlucky to see his well taken shot cannon back off the crossbar to safety. Mike Murphy also came close to scoring in the 35th minute but his shot was well saved. Athletic went close to scoring just when they hid the crossbar just before the break. In the second half Mastergeeha again started the better with Sean Lenihan and Anthohy O Sullivan going close. In the 60th minute Alan Moynihan was awarded a free kick on the edge of the box but the Mastergeeha failed to teke advantage. In the final quarter Athletic upped the pace and pushed forward but the Mastergeeha defence stood firm with Keiran Fleming making a great save in the final minutes to ensure a replay. All involved on the day played well.
