Fingal Invitational Harmony Cup – Girls U16
Last weekend Mastergeeeha girls travelled away to play for the first time in the Harmony Cup hosted in Fingal, Dublin. This one-day tournament with boys and girls competitions had teams from Northern Ireland, Germany and a selection of local clubs. In the opening group match the girls played Balbriggan FC. In this close game which the girls won 1-0 all played well with goalkeeper Ann O Keeffe outstanding. Tracy Coffey scored the winner in the final minutes following a long clearance out of defence. In the second game the girls played Portmarnock Afc. Mastergeeha had lots of possession and dominated the game but could not score the crucial goal with Marie Mc Sweeney and Orla Bruton going close (0-0). Thus in the final group game the girls needed to win to progress to the Cup final. The team did not disappoint winning the match 2-0. Captain Ciara Nagle scored the opening goal with a top corner free kick and Tracy Coffey assured the win following a pass from her sister Ashling. In the final the girls again faced Balbriggan FC. This match was a close encounter with both sides having some half chance in the 1st half. In the second half Balbriggan FC started to dominate the match and scored the only goal of the game with 10 min remaining. All the girls upped their effort and pushed forward in search of the equaliser but could not get the vital gaol to take the match to penalties. At the final whistle though disappointed all the girls could not be faulted for their effort and spirit throughout the day in heavy conditions. Later that evening all involved attended a reception dinner and awards hosted in the Park Plaza Tyrrelstown. Mastergeeeha girls were presented with a participation trophy and runners up plaques by Packie Bonner. All who involved enjoyed the trip and had a great time.
