This thrilling game held in Kilbrean Park between two close rivals resulted in Mastergeeha boys reaching the Cup Final. In the early stages the home side created a great chance with Damien Breen shooting just wide of the post. With the play going from end to end in the 10th minute Kelvin Teahan was unlucky to see his shot cleared off the line. Kelvin Teahan again went close two minutes later following a Jamie O’Donoghue cross, however no side could take advantage of the open play to leave the score at half time nil all. The second half had only just begun when a long range shot by Celtic went all the way to the net for the lead goal. Mastergeeha now upped the pace and were rewarded in the 40th minute when Damien Breen crashed an unstoppable shot to the net following a dribble from near half way. However two minutes later Celtic were awarded a harsh penalty but to the relief of the home support the kick went over the bar. Following this Mastergeeha again attacked with Kelvin Teahan and Sean Sullivan going close. However the boys were not to be denied when following a through ball from Matthew Keane, Damien Breen finished to the net well for the lead goal. In the final ten minutes the defence stood firm with Philip Casey, Anthony Magnier, William Maher and Paul Riordan keeping out the Celtic attack. On the day the whole team showed great spirit and effort with all involved playing their part in this memorable victory. Best of luck to the boys in the final.
