U-14's Beuken Cup Winners

U14 Trip to Belgium.  On Thursday 1st May the U14 boys and supporters travelled abroad to Hasselt in Belgium to compete in the Beuken Cup.  On Friday Mastergeeha played three games in the qualifying rounds against teams from Rotherdam, Belgium and Germany.  The boys played well winning all three and scoring fourteen goals over the day.  On Saturday afternoon in the semi final Mastergeeha faced strong opposition from Netherlands.  In an even match Mastergeeha created a number of good chances through James Devane, Padraig Nagle and Enda O’Sullivan but failed to get the breakthrough until the closing stages. Following a good passing move involving Jamie Spillane and Noel Duggan, a Padraig Nagle shot ended in the net for the deserved winner.  In the final the club faced a team from Rotherdam in the evening.  Again in a close match with many chances no side could break the deadlock.  With the score at 0-0 the dreaded penalty shoot out was to decide the winners.  In the three penalty shoot out Denis O’Riordan, Noel Duggan and Jamie Spillane all expertly converted to bring the Beuken Cup back to Mastergeeha.  Panel: Shane Murphy, Noel Duggan, Denis O’Riordan, Jamie Spillane, James Devane, Mark Egan, Padraig Courtney, Padraig Doyle, Mark Reen, Kieran Murphy, Padraig Nagle, Gary O’Leary, Enda O’Sullivan.  A wonderful time was had by all.
