In the nervy opening stages both teams had some good possession but created little chances with both defences on dominating. In the 15th minute following some good play in midfield Mastergeeha created the first corner of the game. Derek Breen crossed the ball in and Kelvin Teahan was unlucky to see his shot go wide. Mastergeeha were now applying pressure to the Listowel defence with Damian Breen and Matthew Keane having shots saved. In the closing stages of the first half Listowel created a good opening but Jonathon O’Sullivan saved well. In the second half upped the pace and were rewarded in the 35th minute. Derek Breen passed a true ball to Damian who held his nerve and rounded the defender and goalkeeper to score to the delight of the team and followers. Mastergeeha were now in command and Paul O’Riordan’s shot was narrowly wide following a corner. In the 45th minute Jamie O’Donoghue passed to Derek Breen who played a one two with his brother Damian but only a last ditch defending preventing him from scoring. When Listowel did attach the back four-stood firm with Philip Casey and Anthony Maigner leading by example apply assisted by Daniel Moynihan and William Maher. In the closing stages the boys made the game safe when Damian Breen scored with a shot to the bottom corner of the net following a pass from Paul O’Riordan. Following the final whistle the boys received their winners medals and Derek Breen accepted the cup to the delight of all from Mastergeeha. This victory is reward for all the effort and hard work by the lads throughout the year. On the night the team showed spirit and heart and played some excellent soccer to record this memorable victory. Well done to the lads and coaches Chris Keane and Edmund McSweeney.
