Fenit and Mastergeeha in the final Saturday May 31th Tralee Dynamos Pitch. This was going to be tough if though we had played them three times already this season and not lost any of the three times, we did not want it to be this time. This game started at an unreal pace and the heat was unreal. Both teams defence were impossible to break through so there was a lot of play around centre of field for a lot of the first half. It ended half time 0 to 0. In the second half Mastergeeha put a lot more and it soon paid off Johnny O’Connor put a great ball through for Padraig Collins and Padraig made no mistake a great goal. With about one minute left Fenit got their break, the referee gave them a penalty which they scored and now we were set for extra time ten minutes aside. Darragh McCarthy who had just come in as a sub in the last minute of normal time got a ball down the left wing. He took strike at the ball and drove it high and it dropped down behind the goalie, now ahead 1 to 0 at the half and tough ten minutes ahead, with two minutes left Fenit got a corner and somehow got a shot in, I was beginning to think was it going to be our day or not. Down to penalties, what a hard way to go out was going through my mind we scored our four and Fenit scored their four, we missed their fifth and they missed their fifth, now to sudden death. John O’Connor stood up and made no mistake what a brilliant penalty, now Fenit needed to score to keep them in but Donal Leader our goalie had something else in mind, what a great save, well done Donal at the start of this years campaign we asked the players what they wanted this year and they all said “promotion”. Champions of division one, their DREAM came TRUE. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mick O Connor our coach without him I know we could not have achieved this, he stuck it out through rain and storm many a night. Also David Cahill who organised our Clacton trip. Congratulations to all the U. 13 lads, they have been great ambassadors for the club home and away this year.
