Review of U-13s Season

U.13. Our under 13 started the season with wins against Ballyhar, Camp, St. Bernard’s, Dingle, Fenit, Killorglin twice and draws against Dingle and Fenit. This left us top of the table coming up to Easter weekend leaving the lads very happy heading away to England to play in an U.14 competition at Clacton on sea for the Easter weekend. This was the merit cup competition European teams such as Holland, two teams from London and a local team from Clacton and also a team from Aldarado, California,U.S.A. We got off to a great start beating Holland 1-0, a fine penalty shot by Anthony O’Connor in the dying minutes of the game, the next game was against a very physical local English team which definitely did look 14 years old, but our boys did very good against them, we were under pressure for all of this game but it took the opposition up to the 88th minute to score. This knocked the heart out of the lads and were very down going into the third match against Clacton, they beat us 2 to 0, I think if the second game had been a draw we would have got a different result in the third game. The fourth the game upped their game and they played well for most of the game. The U.S.A. were very strong and beat us 2 to 0, we were very unlucky a few times not to get a goal or two. The next day we were due to play two more games but the competition got cancelled due to bad weather, during the night the EAST Coast of England was hit by a snow storm and so we had a bit of time to enjoy the surrounding areas. So we headed to the bowling alley for a few hours, all the lads had a great time and also the parents enjoyed themselves. It was a trip to remember. On our return we had two games right away, the first against Dingle in Dingle, we always knew that this and go with only two minutes to go we were losing 2 to 1, we got a free from outside the big box and Darragh McCarthy took it and rattled the top of the net, what a cracker. The next game against Camp at home went very well for us and we won 2 to 0. We still held top position at this point, so we had to wait for a number of weeks who would come out on top. Then two weeks ago Fenit and Camp had to play, if any of these two teams win then this would knock us down to second place, well it ended in a draw and so it meant Fenit and us had the same amount of points.
