The club appreciated greatly the visit and presentation of a shield to Mastergeeha FC by the FAI. MASTERGEEHA F.C. U. 10 Girls.
Killarney Celtic 2 Mastergeeha 1.
Our under ten girls travelled down to Celtic Park to take on the locals in a friendly game last Sunday. Even though they were defeated by one goal they gave a tremendous performance especially in the second half. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half we were under constant pressure with Celtic on top in all sections of the field. Celtic scored twice in this half and were it not for some great defending by our defence we would have been futher in arrears at half time. Having made some changes to the team Mastergeeha came out a totally different team in the second half. It was Mastergeeha who were now in control and took the game to Celtic. 15 minutes in to the second half Mastergeeha pulled a goal back when Megan OíNeill took the ball forward from midfield and hit a tremendous shot which ended up in the back of the net. This goal lifted the whole team and they tried everything to get the equalizer but Celtic held out for the win. A fantastic team performance especially in the second half. Our goalkeeper Aibhin Dobbins played very soundly. The back four of Niamh Fitzgerald (Capt.) Joanne Healy, Christina Buckley and Shauna Looney defended very strongly. In midfield Lynn Brosnan, Sinead Nagle, Katie Egan, Megan OíNeill and Clara Brosnan played their hearts out and never stopped trying. Up front Rachel Carey and Siobhan Moynihan gave it everything and made life difficult for the Celtic defence. It was great to see so many parents coming to support the girls. A special word of thanks to Noreen O’Connor of Celtic for all her help in organising the game and we hope to have a return game in the next couple of weeks.

MASTERGEEHA F.C. 2, CONFEY F.C. 0.
This fifth round National Cup match took place last Saturday at a sun-drenched Kilbrean Park in front of a large attendance. Mastergeeha supporters were not disappointed and were treated to an excellent game of football between two teams that displayed power and skill in abundance. The visitors, Confey F.C., are based in Leixlip, Co. Kildare and are highly ranked in the premier division of the U14 Dublin District school boy League. They fielded a number of players with international experience and must have been surprised at the manner in which the first half unfolded. Although there were no scores in this half, the Mastergeeha lads matched there highly rated opposition in every area of the pitch. Indeed, in the seventh minute following good work down the left wing by Jerh Sheehan, Mastergeehas striker Seamus Brosnan found himself with only the keeper to beat but shot narrowly wide. Another move in the 25th minute saw the ball moving quickly and skilfully through four Mastergeeha players from the left wing through the midfield then finding Ian Devane in the right corner whose shot hit the side netting.
Ten minutes into the second half mid fielder and man of the match, Chris O Leary, struck a pile dash driver from 40 yards leaving the Confey keeper rooted to his goal line as the ball whistled into the top right corner of the net. Mastergeeha were now playing confidently with the back four of Tadgh Ryan, Sean Daly, Joe O Donovan and TJ Moriarty dealing capably with anything Confey had to offer and providing plenty of cover for goalie Shane Murphy whose was also on top of his game and dealt competently with anything that managed to get through the defence. Mastergeeha had gained the upper hand in the midfield battle with the two O Learys, Garry and Chris, working effectively together and with Jerh Sheehan and Mike Hanifin raiding down both wings Mastergeeha kept the pressure on the oppositions defence. In the 55th minute striker Ian Devane hit a curling and dipping shot with his left foot from outside the penalty area and the Kilbrean Park crowd roared as the ball dipped under the cross bar and into the top left corner leaving the keeper once again with no chance. Mastergeeha used two substitutes bringing on Enda O Sullivan at half time and Padraig Nagle midway through the second half. While it is fair to say that the Mastergeeha lads had to play to the best of their ability to win, they can clearly progress further in this competition if they reproduce this level of performance. They are now through to the last sixteen of this national competition and will play Cherry Orchard in Dublin for a place in the quarter-finals.
