Fingal Invitational Harmony Cup – Girls

Last weekend Mastergeeeha girls travelled away to play in the Harmony Cup hosted in Fingal, Dublin. This one-day tournament with boys, girls and special olympics competitions had teams from Northern Ireland, Italy and a selection of local clubs. In the opening group match the girls played last years winners Balbriggan FC. In this tough encounter Mastergeeha got off to a good start controlling the play and creating some good chances. The girls took the lead in the 15th minute when Miriam Healy crossed for Oral Bruton to score. In the second half Mastergeeha scored again when Ashling Coffey through ball was scored by Miriam Healy.  In the second game the girls played Esker Kells again starting well going two up in the first half with Mirian Healy and Ashling Coffey scoring in the first half. In the second half the Meath side came more in to the game and scored in the 30th minute. However with the defence playing well the girls won 2-1 qualifying for the final as group winners. In the final the girls again faced Shelbourne FC. This match was a close encounter with both sides having some half chance in the 1st half. Mastergeeha were unlucky not to score when a shot by Maura O Connor was fumbled by the goalkeeper but no one could get the vital touch. Amanda Courtney also went close but the keeper made a fine save.  In an even second half both sides went close but it was Shelbourne who scored in the 30th minute on the break. All the girls upped their effort and pushed forward in search of the equaliser but it was Shels who second with 5 minutes remaining.  At the final whistle though disappointed all the girls could not be faulted for their effort and spirit throughout the day. Later that evening all involved attended a reception and awards hosted in the Spotslink Santry.  Mastergeeeha girls were presented with a participation trophy and runners up medals by Mikey Graham.
